The VX21 Leg Vise Has a Cousin!
A while back we released the VX21 leg vise and now we introduce the leg vises cousin; The VX21 wagon vise. The new VX21 wagon vise has been updated with all the great features of the VX21 leg vise with some additional improvements just for the wagon vise. Installing or removing the VX21 wagon vise will be very easy because the clamp shaft is removable. The clamp shaft can be installed or removed by pulling it straight out of the [...]
We Were Wrong
When we designed and developed the VX20 leg vise hardware we thought this is it. It doesn’t get any better. This is one instance where it is good to be wrong! Our R&D department, working in conjunction with the engineering and manufacturing departments has been busy with a new concept that began about 4 years ago. The engineering department created an initial design while working with the manufacturing department to make sure the design could be made efficiently. The [...]
Grease is the Word…. If You Want Your Leg, Wagon or Face Vise to Operate Smoothly!
The clamp shaft of the vises does not require any lubrication to operate smoothly. The internal mechanism however, does need grease for smooth operation. Our vises are built using an NLGI #2 extreme pressure grease. This same high-quality grease is now available for you to purchase in a convenient 0.5-ounce container that you can keep near your vise. Grease is widely available at home centers and auto parts stores but you typically have to purchase a tube (used in [...]
New Products! Turned Rim Handwheels.
We have added some new handwheels to further allow you to customize your woodworking vise. These new handwheels have a square profile with a very nicely finished turned profile. They have a very nice feel in the hand. The large one is 8" diameter and is for use with the leg or face vise. The smaller one is 6" diameter and is for use with the wagon vise. The smaller diameter will keep the handwheel below the top of [...]
More Moravian….
We have have had a great response for our new Moravian leg vise hardware and X Link. So many requests that we ran out of our first prototype run of parts and are now making more. The Moravian leg vise is our original leg vise hardware with an integral front bearing added to it which allows the X Link to be tucked up close to the clamp shaft to take up the minimum amount of space. The round bearing [...]
Moravian Bench X Link
I have received many requests for a leg vise and X Link scissors parallel guide that will work with a Moravian bench. Some of you may be wondering what a Moravian bench is. The Moravians were a settlement of German speaking Protestants in what is now known as Winston-Salem North Carolina. There is a workbench on display at the J. Blum house in the Old Salem Museum and Gardens that was created and used by the Moravian’s. It is [...]
Leg Vise & X Link Installation
Here is a very nicely done video by James Wright showing how he installs a VX20 leg vise coupled with an X Link parallel guide. James is a hand tool woodworker and produces videos from "Wood by Wright." His videos are very entertaining and his video productions is top notch. His leg vise is customized with butterfly keys and some nice carvings. He opted for the metal hand wheel to top off the installation. Enjoy!
What Does Molten Metal Have to do With Woodworking?
The end of the year is near and the Hovarter Custom Vise accounting department luckily found some extra money in the budget so we decided to spring for some new equipment. We purchased a Lincoln Square Wave 200 TIG welder! We have some new products that we are working on which will require some precision welding and this unit fit the bill. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas and it utilizes a non-consumable tungsten electrode to form the arc [...]
